An actor, a father, a role model and even Superman. These are some of the words used to describe Christopher Reeve. Reeve, an actor best known for playing Superman, was left paralyzed from the neck down following a horse riding accident and was expected to never recover. (Wikipedia n.pag). After the paralysis, he was hesitant about what would happen in the future. Despite the difficulties and struggles, it occurred to him that it would take strong determination and will to overcome his adverse situation. His family was with him and supported him in every decision he had to make. At one point he had considered suicide, but after a talk from his family, particularly his wife, he never considered suicide as an option again. He continued to overcome difficulties to become the person he was. However, he would have to overcome obstacles to become the Superman he was. Christopher Reeve overcame the adversity caused by his accident through his behaviors, relationships and decisions. While Christopher Reeve may be remembered for playing Superman, people may not know that he endured hardships to recover from an accident that nearly took his life. Christopher Reeve was an actor who had starred in many films such as Street Smart, The Bostonians and 'Superman'. (Foundation n.pag). She began to get into horse riding after learning to ride for a part in a film, called Anna Karenina. (Wikipedia n.pag).On May 27, 1995 Christopher Reeve had a terrible accident. He was thrown from his horse and hit a wall. Hitting the wall, he shattered his two upper vertebrae, detaching his head from his neck. (Wikipedia n.pag). Christopher Reeve was forced to be confined to a wheelchair and have to breathe on a ventilator at all times, and eventually to have a nurse with him at all times. However, he was determined not to have a nurse and to be able to breathe on his own for hours at a time Over time he was able to achieve this by being persistent and overcoming adverse situations.
