When trying to fit into society, it can be difficult to find work. When inmates find work, they usually work in jobs that do not require high skills, such as food service, wholesale, maintenance, and repair. The main reason inmates return to prison is not the lack of job opportunities but the perception of that job when they return home. “Service providers and community leaders view employment as the primary factor in successful reentry” (Casey 2). When the lack of job opportunities comes, inmates may feel the need to break the law and return to a life of crime because they cannot support themselves, so they may turn to selling drugs to make a quick buck. Drug dealing is not an alternative to not being able to find work, especially when you have just got out of prison because if they get caught they find themselves back in prison. Recidivism is a topic that I don't think anyone can solve, it's hard to understand why people look back at the crime again and again after getting caught the first time.
