Rapid population growth and urban sprawl are two of the main causes of deforestation. Apart from this, use of forest land for agriculture, grazing of animals, collection of firewood and deforestation are some of the other causes of deforestation. Deforestation contributes to global warming as the shrinking size of forests releases carbon back into the environment. Rapid population growth also puts a strain on natural resources, resulting in degradation of our environment. The mortality rate has decreased due to improvements in medical facilities which have led to an increase in lifespan. More simple population means more demand for food, clothing and shelter. More space is needed to grow food and provide homes for millions of people. This results in deforestation which is another factor of environmental degradation. And last but not least, pollution, in any form, be it air, water, land or noise, is harmful to the environment. Air pollution pollutes the air we breathe causing health problems. Water pollution degrades the quality of the water we use for drinking purposes. Soil pollution causes degradation of the earth's surface due to human activities. “ Noise pollution can cause irreparable damage to our ears when exposed to large, continuous sounds, such as vehicle horns on a busy road or machines making loud noise in a factory or mill”
