On a positive note: These horrible events will serve me well for future best practices. However, I am grateful for my background because of the events that motivated me to look into my training in clinical mental health counseling. In fact, a person's reasons for becoming a counselor may be due to a past event in which they participated in assisting a friend with a difficult time or, like me, who needed help (Why become a professional counselor? | CACREP, 2014 ). That said, my professional expectation is to improve the lives of populations who require help. After gaining experience as a client in a consulting setting, I wanted to grow as a consultant. Therefore, my dream is to become trained in clinical mental health counseling to save children who have or are suffering from neglect or abuse. By supporting these types of clients, I will experience countertransference. So I don't have to just treat children. However, they are adults who have experienced a difficult past and are still tormented by memories. Ultimately, another population I would help are patients with schizophrenia. Witnessing the actions my mother performed at a young age influenced me to do research into how to operate towards this group during those behavioral situations.
