Topic > PETA Campaigns Try to Green Carnivores - 1436

Vegetarianism, PETA touts it as a panacea for obesity in its ad campaigns urging people to ditch meat and eat plant-based meals . This series has been going for over a decade, but it really seems to have picked up speed in recent years as they've started pairing American celebrities with vegetables, whether in elegant outfits made of different vegetables or naked among baskets of their favorite edible plant. Along with fit celebrities and their veggies, there's an included message, an offer of free vegetarian recipes if you visit their website. The message is clear: PETA wants us to stop eating animal meat and is willing to use celebrities with fit bodies and free recipes to do it. I think these ads are effective strategies to influence the consumer who is always looking for the next big thing to be a part of that involves a celebrity model. The latest print ad to come from PETA is the provocative Angela Simmons print ad, in which she can only be described as Eve of Eden in all her naked glory. The ad that states that eating meat is a sin may be more focused on religious carnivores, but the image is definitely aimed at those who like a provocative naked woman, because the ad is nothing if not sexy. Her dark hair flowed loose and wavy over her shoulders hiding her bare breasts, her right swipe resulted in a chain of ivy draped along it; most prominent is his smooth, youthful face, almost a reflection of the beautiful red apple he holds just under his chin in the palm of his right hand, while the palm of his left hand rests softly against his cheek. His arm is raised and turns slightly, snaking through his hair, reminding me of a snake, I believe this is an intentional subliminal message within... the center of the card... websites to target companies that mistreat their livestock. These methods are aimed at consumers who, without this type of advertising, would never realize a problem existed or even what PETA was. So ultimately PETA's goal is driven by the consumer because the consumer thinks and is influenced by advertising; and the more attention the advertisement receives, the more likely the consumer is to pay attention and be swayed to your side of the table if it is an advertising campaign that he (the consumer) can identify with and, frankly, almost all consumers can relate to sexy.Works Citedn.d.PETA.org.
