From the herbalists of prehistoric times to the modern medicine we have today, biomedicine has always been a fundamental science. The billions of microorganisms to which we are exposed every day suggest that the possible event of contracting a disease is predictable. Despite this, some diseases can be treated with a small amount of paracetamol, the current paracetamol. The fact that a potentially life-saving compound exists in a small pill that can be easily obtained without a prescription fascinates me. Studying biomedicine would offer me the opportunity to venture into the world of medicine, as I would like to play a role in treating diseases. My A level choices show my interest in biomedicine. Biology in itself increased my passion for this course as I learned about the complexity and sophistication of the human body through topics such as immunity.
