Ian HunterMr. Gazette/Mr. AbramsAmerican/English HistoryMarch 30, 2014The Jacksonian EraAndrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767, at his uncle's home in Lancaster County, South Carolina. Jackson's father died before he was born. Some of the things Andrew Jackson is most known for, aside from being the seventh president, are the abuse of the Spoils System, the displacement of thousands of Indians from their homelands, and the dismantling of the American Bank which ultimately caused a depression (en.wikipedia.org/wiki /Andrew_jackson). Andrew Jackson was a major general in the Revolutionary War (www.americapresidents.org). Andrew Jackson was nicknamed old walnut because he had a tough and aggressive personality and even though his commanding soldiers practically adored him (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew Jackson); he took advantage of too many things. He took advantage of the Spoil System, the US military and its legislative power. Because of these three things, the only possible conclusion is that Andrew Jackson does not belong in the President's Hall of Fame. First, Andrew Jackson abused the Spoil System by firing everyone in office during Washington's Presidency and putting his friends, family, and party loyalists in office. Andrew Jackson put people in office with no prior training or knowledge in this field (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew Jackson). This was a dangerous decision made by President Jackson and something he should not have had enough power to enforce. Jackson could put anyone he wanted in office; there were actually no requirements since he became president and he had no form of education. (en.wikepedia.org/wiki/Andrew Jackson). Part of Jackson's political agenda was to remove the Native Tr......center of the paper......drastically increase credit and stocks. President Andrew Jackson was then censored for this reason, Henry Clay was the head of this censorship. Jackson later said that Clay was "reckless and full of rage like a drunken man in a brothel". In 1836 Andrew Jackson issued the Specie Circular or executive order requiring anyone wanting to purchase government land such as the new Indian Territory to pay in gold or silver bullion. The problem was that these smaller banks didn't have that kind of money; gold was worth a lot of money, and banks simply didn't have the kind of money to spend on the gold bullion that would soon become normal currency. This soon led to the Panic of 1837, which threw the economy into a depression. Hundreds of banks and businesses failed. Thousands of people lost their lands because they did not pay in gold or silver for their lands.
