Vsevold Pudovkin was a Russian-Soviet director, actor and screenwriter. He was one of the great innovators, taught to be the father of Soviet cinema Lev Kuleshov. Called up to fight in World War I while studying engineering in Moscow. He even went so far as to say that the emotional content of a scene comes more from proper editing technique than from the actor's performance.
