Columbine High School experienced one of the greatest traumas in 1999. Two seniors named Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris left for school with the mind focused on something other than English documents. No, they were busy planning how to blow up most of the high school students and staff. Their homemade bomb never activated and several hundred lives were spared. Unfortunately when Harris and Klebold realized that their explosive had never detonated, they continued into the school building. They then killed twelve classmates and a teacher. Twenty-one were injured (Rosenburg). Could you imagine being there that day on what you thought would be just another Monday? How devastating! Even worse, try to imagine being the mother of one of the students shot and killed. No matter how many tears are shed and prayers are offered, restoring their lives is impossible. Comparing this pain to what ordinary people go through every day makes life seem like a fairy tale. Harris wrote in his diary all the things he hated. Teenagers with deep hatred dwell on that thing and never let it go, but since the two boys committed suicide after the incident, no one can be completely sure why these seemingly normal teenagers killed so many students. They obviously hated many things in life. Maybe they were bullied, maybe they were exposed to too many violent video games? The possibilities are endless, and judging by the diary, whether or not they were mentally stable is something to consider. In this article we will focus on the four most likely cases of what could push someone to this extreme.
