Greta Nagy Play Structure and Analysis March 13, 2014 The Short Life of Doctor Faustus The story titled Doctor Faustus is extremely imperative. This is true when you look at the morals, lessons, and warnings of the narratives. As we learn of Doctor Faustus' condensed and inexplicable life, it is obvious that he unfortunately violated what could have been a pleasant life. Corruption, influence, and self-assurance all play as key forces in his impending doom. I conclude that the mentality of this plays priority and influence, shows that many people, both in the present and in the past, have lost their contentment and are thrown into an eternal abyss, both literally (hell in the case of Doctor Faustus) and metaphorically , because of inferior intuition. Near the dawn of the story, we are introduced to our protagonist, the intellectually gifted character of Doctor Faustus, who has a strong desire to be trained in magic. This man is brilliant, but somehow he still lacks a certain inexplicable inner strength and insight. When his desire to learn magic is fulfilled, he reluctantly summons a devil, Mephistopheles, who is contemplating the difficult decision of taking his soul to hell or saving him from eternal terror. Without thinking too much, Faustus is stimulated by his desire, influenced by his enemies and corrupted by his new hobby, and sells his soul to the devil by making a senseless deal; hell, after 24 years of supernatural powers. Influence becomes the initial factor as a result. Doctor Faustus is initially pushed by his two friends to make his way through the concept of magic. He is then influenced by the bad angel, rather than the good one, who pushes him to advance in his study. Following a...... means of paper......n able to report the inaccuracy committed by him. Some things may never be taken back, but when given the chance a compromise can be worked out. In Faustus' case, he was told over and over again to repent and beg God for mercy. Naturally the desire got the better of him, and he ignored his second guesses and his fear. If something doesn't seem right, follow what your intuition tells you. This is a key point that this drama proved to be true. In conclusion, I think the story was full of knowledge, understanding and cunning, all crucial factors in a person's life. Without influence, corruption and intuition, the human race would be very different. Everyone goes through their own right of passage, some sooner or later, some later, where they must overcome and leave behind parts of their past, and enter into what they want from their life. In Faustus' case, he failed the test.
