Unlike many award-winning authors, Harper Lee gets all her publicity from just one book, To Kill a Mockingbird. This was the only book Lee ever wrote and the previously stated quote is Lee's response when asked why she hadn't written more books. Looking at the skeleton of To Kill a Mockingbird, you'd say it's the kind of book that appeals to all ages. The point of view is that of the courageous Scout Finch. It chronicles his adventures and seems to be quite entertaining, from trying to flush Boo Radley out of his house to witnessing his father's problems as an African American lawyer, what makes this book even more intriguing is that it seems to be very much about the childhood of Harper Lee. It contains many characteristics of his family and friends. Not only does it reflect his life, but it also seems to share many similarities with the time period in which it was written. Much of Harper Lee's life and the time period in which it was written seems to be very influential in To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee was born the youngest to parents, Amasa Coleman Lee and Francis Cunningham Finch Lee. He has two older sisters, Alice Lee and Louise Lee, and an older brother Edwin Coleman Lee (What Harper Lee). She was born in the quintessential Southern town of Monroeville, Alabama. Monroeville was just another small town where everyone knew everyone else's business (What Harper Lee). As a child, Lee decided to embark on what would become a lifelong friendship.
