In this way, cultural diversity is promoted among nurses in a healthcare context. Barriers to care, such as communication problems, mistrust and misunderstandings, can be easily avoided. For example, if a nurse is unable to communicate effectively with a Hispanic patient, it is critical that an interpreter be provided to ensure the best use of resources is available. As a nurse who primarily speaks English, I make sure the resource is available for the patient to have a clear understanding before discharge. A couple of resources I have found helpful are printing discharge instructions in Spanish so the patient can have a clear understanding of what treatments need to continue, when the next visit is due, and what medications to continue or stop after
