Introduction During my seminar I will focus on issues relating to the Government's plan to assign every child in Scotland a 'nominated person'. This is a point in the Children and Young People (Scotland) Bill, which parliament recently debated and passed on 19 February this year. The Government believe the Bill will further their “ambition for Scotland to be the best place to grow up, by putting children and young people at the heart of planning and services and ensuring their rights are respected across the sector public” (Scottish Executive, 2013 ). To better understand the approach from which the “named person” arose, I will examine the “Getting it right for every child” (GIRFEC) approach. I also intend to examine the purpose and role of the 'designated person' in depth as the lack of clarity of the role of some organizations is raising concerns. I intend to discuss the arguments for and against the "designated person" and the challenges this might pose for integration. Throughout the article I will discuss the government's need for every child and young person under 18 to have a 'nominated person' and link this to a European policy known as 'social pedagogy', which outlines a unique way of working with children and development policy foundation.GIRFEC approachThe Scottish Government wants all children and young people to be fully supported as they mature and develop, they believe children should be kept safe, be healthy, be given support to achieve, be nurtured , have the opportunity to be active, to be respected, to be responsible and to be included. In order for practitioners to support them with these, the Scottish Government applied the 'GIRFEC' national practice model in 2008, as a method... half of the document... the state guardians process has identified thousands of children .
