The human population is increasing dramatically by the second, adding a billion people every 12 years. Overpopulation creates an abundant amount of problems ranging from environmental to social problems. Nations that reach large amounts of population introduce a wide range of problems to the surrounding world and to those nations. These environmental problems consist of, but are not limited to, the lack of resources such as food and water; which can cause malnutrition in large populations, poor air quality and excessive use of fossil fuels such as oil. The social problems that arise from having an overabundant population consist of overcrowding, limits on freedom, and an increased amount of riots and conflicts within the nation itself. China and India are the two most populous countries in the world. China has a population of 1.34 billion, followed closely by India, the second most populous country with 1.21 billion inhabitants (Indice Mundi). It represents 37% of the world population (Index Mundi). China is home to up to 20% of the world's population, or 1.3 billion people, and according to the United Nations, India is expected to soon surpass China's population in 2028 (5). Due to their ever-increasing populations, China and India have conducted different policies in the past. These policies range from China's strict one-child policy to India's flexible national population policy. In retrospect, if the Indian government does not become stricter and enforce its population policies and provide adequate sexual education, the Indian population will surpass the Chinese population within China and India has reached an overabundant population due of its history. “Even though China is… middle of paper… BBC News.
