The age limit makes underage drinking casual (breaking the rules) and makes teenagers more likely to do so. This is the “forbidden fruit” theory. Lowering the legal drinking age from 21 to 18 would lessen the thrill of breaking the law to have a drink. Normalizing alcohol consumption as something done responsibly and moderately will make drinking less exciting for young adults entering college and the workforce. Removing the age limit wouldn't make drinking more interesting. This is nothing but a slippery slope. There is no evidence that drinking early prevents others from drinking later in life. In fact, drinking may soon become a habit for most teenagers. “People who have their first drink at age 14 or younger are six times more likely to develop alcohol problems than those who don't try alcohol until the legal drinking age”
