Man has always been curious about the underwater world and has sought to explore it. This has pushed man to invent new ways to extend his reach into the underwater world and to make travel less difficult. Over time, underwater exploration has been made easier thanks to man's passion for exploring a new and fascinating underwater world. Inventions such as regulators, breathing apparatus, oxygen tanks, neoprene suits and many other technologies have been used to make underwater exploration as simple and efficient as possible. Scuba diving has evolved into a wide range of advanced technologies that allow the average person to explore a whole new underwater world. People have been diving since around 4500 BC. Greeks, Mesopotamians, Chinese, and many others dove for food, trade, and war (Cooper). Searching for food in the seabed was the main reason that pushed people to dive. Modern man knows this because ancient drawings depict people diving. Ancient artifacts have been discovered in Greece showing divers participating in military activities and searching for sponges on the ocean floor (“History of Scuba Diving,” ScubaSoul.com Internet). In 414 BC, the first evidence of diving used in warfare dates back to the siege of Syracuse by the Greeks. “The origins and history of scuba diving can be traced back centuries.
