Introduction"An information society is a society in which the creation, distribution, dissemination, use, integration and manipulation of information constitutes a significant economic, political and cultural activity" ( Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Over the past few centuries, societies have evolved from agricultural communities to industrial giants. Sociologists, among others, are fascinated by the changes that have occurred in society, especially from the advent of the industrial revolution until the last decades has been called the information age and this essay will discuss the theories of several prominent authors, such as Daniel Bell, Frank Webster, Fritz Machlup and others, regarding the notion of the "information society". some momentum in recent decades as technology advances. There will be some commentary on their interpretations, how the information fits into our society, and the ways in which it has had effects that perhaps have changed us. We will also see whether some or all of them explain exactly what an information society is. Societal contrasts There appear to be fundamental differences between the post-industrial revolution society and the information society. During the British Industrial Revolution, society transformed from small, family-oriented communities with people working the land, to the mass of the population moving from rural areas to work in growing factories in the cities. The manufacturing sector was booming and Britain became a major exporter. However, these new working conditions were often very harsh and the pay was very low. Workers have moved from the flexibility of self-employment or working with family... to the medium of paper... to the information society. We probably all network at some level, whether in a large company, in a call center, or on a personal level, using the Internet to contact or find friends. WSIS is a strong supporter of the information society and appears to have high hopes for it. From the evidence it appears that there is a change in the way people make a living in the West today, and that the workforce is increasing. they are increasingly using ICT rather than engaging in manual work. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new information society.
