Snowflakes and Snowmen The moon was full and bright and it was cold. Stewart liked the quiet just before dawn. Stewart, the snowman, wore a bright red coat and a red pipe hat. He stood still in Carl and Cathy's yard. It began to snow. Stewart watched the snowflakes land on his sleeve one by one, he was always amazed that each flake was different. Sometimes the flakes covered him like a blanket. “God is wonderful,” thought Stewart. Today the paths and roads were supposed to be shoveled but it wouldn't take long, the snow was light. There had been a lot of snow this winter, which made Stewart very happy. He loved snow. When there was fresh snow he was always willing to lend a hand shoveling it from the paths if anyone asked him for help. Stewart looked towards the house. “The family would be up soon,” he said to himself. “Mary and Edward were going to school. Cathy would be headed to the bakery and Carl to his carpentry shop. "Stewart sighed. "Good morning Stewart" Hector said as he passed on his way to the Pleasant Hotel. "Good morning" Stewart replied "There's a lot to do at the hotel this morning." Hector muttered as he hurried. All the sidewalks needed to be cleared of fresh snow and he had to make sure there was plenty of wood for all the fireplaces. Today they were expecting many guests at the Pleasant Hotel and it was his job to make sure everything was ready for them guests for the next few days, because the next day was the Great Toboggan Race, the guests came for the three days reserved for the race and some came only for the day of the race. Everyone in the village was busy. . in the middle of a sheet of paper... written." “I'm sorry I was so selfish, Mayor Sam” Stewart said “Well, it's done now and just in time, could you do a final check first thing in the morning, right before the race?” “Sure,” Stewart said as he turned to leave. “Also, someone has to be with me at the finish line tomorrow to see who wins the race,” Mayor Sam continued, “Would you like to do it Stewart?” “Oh my God,” Stewart said. "You mean I'm going to be a judge?" “Yes, that's right,” Sam said, “It's a very important job. You'll also hand out trophies to the winners.” Stewart frowned. “To think I almost missed out on all of this just because I was selfish,” Stewart said. “God often warns us about our selfishness,” Sam explained. “I'm glad you understand now.” A small tear rolled down Stewart's cheek. “Don't,” Sam warned, “You'll look silly with an ice bike hanging off your chin."”
