Topic > Clean Car Care: Making a Job Offer - 1176

Heneman, Judge, and Kammeyer-Mueller (2012) describe a job offer as an attempt to persuade someone to create an employment relationship organization. In the case of Clean Car Care (3C), Arlan Autospritz faces a challenging decision. For the first time, he is attempting to take on an external management position within the organization. He narrowed his search to two candidates, each attractive in their own way. When extending a job offer, Arlan has several tactics he can consider, various incentives beyond the base salary, and terms he can include in an effort to attract the best candidate. Bidding Type: Best-Shot, Competitive or Lowball Arlan has two well-qualified candidates to choose from. His first choice, Jane Roberts, has excellent supervisory experience, but is weaker in customer service and is averse to working Saturdays and Sundays, a necessity for Arlan's managers. Jane is also closer in salary and benefits to Arlan's current managers. The second choice, Betts Cook, is superior in customer service skills and is more willing to work on weekends, but Arlan has reservations about his lack of supervisory experience. Betts is also closer to the top of Arlan's salary range for managers and has better benefits than those on offer. Arlan must take into consideration the costs the employee incurs in accepting an offer with 3C (Heneman, Judge, & Kammeryer-Mueller, 2012). Arlan must determine how far he is willing to negotiate, what compensation components he will use in the negotiation, and the job offer tactic he intends to use to extend an offer to his best candidate. Lowball Arlan faces a difficult position. Although it might be interesting to extend a... middle of paper ......action to Jane. By providing a fair and competitive offer, Arlan increases its chances of creating a positive hiring experience and setting a favorable tone for the employment relationship.
