Dear tortured students in Mrs. Thornton's class, I'm Mattie Jones. I'm currently learning about American romance. I didn't understand American romance as well as I would have liked. I know how bad American romance is, believe me, I'm doing it. To help you when you come across this horrible unity, I will explain my understanding of the American Romanticism era. In the story “Dr. Heidegger's Experiment” by Nathaniel Hawthorne, displays many romantic characteristics. “But it was well known that it was a book of magic; and once, when a maid had picked it up just to sweep away the dust, the skeleton had rattled in her cupboard, the image of the young woman had stepped on the floor, and several hideous faces had peeped out of the mirror; while the brazen head of Hippocrates defrauds” (Hawthorne 1). From this section of “Dr. Heidegger's experiment” shows which romantic character best? I think it best shows the romantic nature of the supernatural.
