I. INTRODUCTIONPeople are the key to business success. However nowadays this aspect is often overlooked and people see it as a necessary expense. A successful business is not just based on the power of one person, but involves teamwork and continuous, effective communication. Storey (1995) defines that human resource management is an individual approach to employment management that seeks to gain competitive advantage through the strategic employment of a highly committed and capable workforce, using an integrated set of cultural, structural techniques and staff.II. THE ROLE OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Human resource management involves various practices such as recruitment/resourcing, administration, selection, performance and reward management, talent management, employment relations, training and development. Efficient and effective human resource management ensures the effective utilization of resources so that objectives can be achieved. The organization aiming to utilize its resources efficiently invites the Human Resources department to create the required objectives and policies. It also helps maintain a proper organizational structure by defining positions, rights, duties, responsibilities and accountabilities of each employee. Fapohunda (2012) states that human resource management is about the successful development and operation of human resources to achieve organizational goals and objectives. He also stated that it is the management task through which managers recruit, select, train and develop members of the organization. Furthermore, human resource management provides a respectful and peaceful working environment for each employee.
