When people dream and strive to achieve their goals, it can be a wonderful thing. However, when success overshadows your dreams and you become obsessed with that success, it can lead to a path of destruction. For some people, achieving the life that corresponds to the “American Dream” is that path of destruction. This lifestyle is very evident in the main characters of both “Death of a Salesman” and “A Raisin in the Sun,” Willy Loman and Walter Lee Younger. They have dedicated their lives to a self-destructive ideal. Although they had different reasons in mind, the two characters are very similar. In both films there are different visions of the American dream. In “Death of a Salesman,” the main character, Willy Loman, has dedicated his life to the pursuit of the American dream. For him, a perfect life meant being loved by everyone, wealth and being remembered.
