Training Manual on Communication, Conflict Resolution and EthicsIntroductionThis training manual will help guide all department managers to help their team create effective lines of communication between colleagues and our members. This training guide will also help us learn what to do when we have conflicts between colleagues and members. Additionally, this guide will discuss the ethical and legal issues affecting our healthcare industry. Effective communication is defined as when it “allows even the most negative or difficult messages to be communicated without creating conflicts”. When a person is an effective communicator, you are able to communicate and convey your message without being misunderstood. Effective communication combines a number of skills including nonverbal communication, attentive listening, the ability to manage stress in the moment, and the ability to recognize and understand your own emotions and those of those with whom you communicate (helpguide.org , n.d.). Conflict is the struggle that results when people with different and seemingly incompatible goals, values, or agendas disagree (Healthfirst University, 2011). Because we work with many people in a constantly changing environment, conflicts will arise. Whether it's overcoming a communication problem between you and another colleague or mediating a conflict between two members of your team, conflict can take you away from your work and eat up your time (Healthfirst University, 2011). In contemporary society, people tend to base their actions on what they think will be best or on certain rules of right action, regardless of what the outcome of the action might be (“Ethical Decisions in Health Care,” 2004). This led to… middle of paper… that you are following the rules found in the employee handbook • If you notice anything that is unethical be sure to report it to your immediate supervisor or the human resources department.
