We are all faced with articles and news stories detailing crimes occurring around the world, crimes affecting all types of communities, crimes relating to religious differences, of gender and age, to name just a few examples. I have always paid close attention to the punishments inflicted on criminals, and I always find myself debating whether these punishments were fair or unfair. I am particularly interested in the criminal justice system and the different bodies involved such as the Youth Justice Council and the Police Service. I am extremely eager to learn more about their goals and how they operate and work together, as well as the story behind them. I aspire to become a social worker, working primarily with young offenders. After visiting the Youth Justice Board website for more information, I was particularly impressed by the programs set up to mentor young people from disadvantaged and anti-social areas. The Youth Inclusion Program (YIP), for example, aims to provide young people with the opportunity to acquire new skills, as well as education and career opportunities....
