Benjamin Franklin was a brilliant man who played an important role in America's early life. He was respected by many and made great contributions to American society. While he wasn't perfect, he exemplified the qualities of what it means to be American. Through his contributions in inventions, writing, and his practices in managing his time well, he was the perfect American man. With his extraordinary intellectual gifts, Franklin introduced devices into society that greatly benefited America as a whole. He once stated that “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” These words of his are more applicable to his various great ideas. The interest he gained was not pecuniary, but it was the satisfaction he received knowing that society was better off with the addition of his ideas and various devices. Although he could have made significant financial gains with patents resulting from his ideas, he chose not to patent them and instead made them public so that others could benefit from his vast amount of knowledge.
