King's conceptual systems help put those people (our patients, family members, colleagues), their problems (ill health, chemical dependency) and their environment (culture, social environment ), in three systems that, if we healthcare professionals, take into consideration, can help achieve health. King's Goal Achievement Theory focuses on the nurse-client relationship, takes systems into account, and emphasizes their importance in achieving the desired outcome. The nursing domain involves humans, families, and communities as a framework within which nurses transact in multiple environments with health as the goal (King, The Theory of Goal Attainment in Research and Practice, 1996). King's system helps us, as nurses, respect the differences in our world and, through those differences, achieve the goal:
