One of the most horrific tragedies that could ever happen at one of our nation's elementary schools occurred on December 14, 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut. At approximately 9:30 a.m. a lone heavily armed gunman forced his way through a window located to the right of the front door of Sandy Hook Elementary School using a Bushmaster .223 caliber rifle. It took just six .223 caliber bullets to shatter enough glass to create a hole large enough for him to enter. The name of this lone gunman was Adam Lanza, 20, a former Sandy Hook student. In addition to the rifle, Adam also brought with him two pistols (a Glock and a Sauer); which held inside a pair of military-style cargo pants he was wearing. He also wore a duty vest that contained ten magazines with thirty rounds each in the pockets. Once inside the school he entered the main school office and the nurse's office.
