Maturation in the Center of the WorldThe author, Donald Batchelder, wrote this story about the unexpected moments he faced while traveling in rural Brazil. His story began when he was driving his old jeep along the mountain road in Brazil and his car's radiator started leaking. To deal with this leak which was overheating the engine, Donald decided to stop in the nearest village. People came to see if they could help, when they noticed water coming out of the radiator holes; one man said, “It's easy to fix,” and asked a boy to go and bring some green banana. Donald wasn't sure how the man would use the green bananas to fix his radiator, but instead of thinking about it, he chose to ask the man about the huge rock formations around them: "See the tall one right over there?" Donald asked the man. The man responded by saying: “That rock marks the center of the world”, he, the man, added “the absolute center. Everyone here knows it."
