In today's world, nothing is impossible when it comes to technology, but you can see some of the advantages and disadvantages of science and technology in Jekyll and Hyde and in modern day baseballs. Biogenesis was an anti-aging clinic in Miami, which provided PEDs to several MLB players. Anabolic steroids “Promote the growth of skeletal muscle (anabolic effects) and the development of male sexual characteristics (androgenic effects) in both males and females” (Anabolic Steroid Abuse). When the reports came out showing the names of the players who were using the steroids, it was easy to see the numerous statistical changes before and after taking the enhancer. Jekyll and Hyde compares and contrasts the use of steroids through self-enhancement, particularly with the use of science and technology and the contrasting schedules for taking these enhancers between Jekyll and MLB players. The similarities between Jekyll and Hyde and the use of PEDs can be seen through the science and technology behind it and the consequences that come with it. Jekyll created the potion that transformed him into Hyde, with the knowledge he gained during his years as a doctor. The Center for Addiction and Mental Health explains that “anabolic steroids produced by pharmaceutical companies are legally available only by prescription. Most steroids used by athletes are smuggled, stolen, or produced in clandestine laboratories. Veterinary drugs are often used” (camh.ca). This is how MLB players get their steroids, through labs. Both of these substances are scientifically produced only thanks to advanced knowledge achieved by much research and education. The other similarity is the consequences that Jekyll and the MLB players faced because of ta... middle of paper... ...before. The power to control his appearance and personality through the potion he had created. Likewise, MLB players wanted to enhance their performance by taking these illegal steroids. Jekyll and the numerous MLB players involved in the Biogenesis case had a great opportunity to achieve advancements in their field, and their will to succeed also led to their downfall.
