The fear of youth violence is a constant concern for millions of people around the world. Children seem to occupy more and more space in crimes that are usually committed by adults over the age of 18. “Statistics confirm that more horrific crimes are being committed by younger and younger children” (Levine 27). These crimes committed by young people are caused by many different reasons: poverty, neighborhoods, schools, parents and TV are the main concerns. But what most people are thinking is what can we do to help prevent this violence. While there are many different methods to reduce youth violence, such as administering harsher punishments and removing kids from gang influences, the most effective is conflict resolution training because it gives kids another alternative to fighting . There are many different reasons why children engage in violence. The main reasons are families, neighbourhood, peer groups, television, schools and personal factors. According to Joy G. Dryfoos, “Children who demonstrate antisocial behavior come from very unsupportive families at two extremes: either the family is repressive and violent, or it seriously neglects the child from an early age” (71). Parental neglect is a strong predictor of violence in a child, and parental rejection is the most powerful predictor. “The closer the child's relationship with his parents, the more attached and identified he is with them, the less his chances of delinquency” (Hirschi 71). Neighborhoods and peer groups also have a great influence on children and their crimes. Growing up in an underclass neighborhood is closely related to the risk of crime. Not all poor people are criminals, but drugs, guns and poverty are identified as causes of… middle of paper… violence. There is not much we can do as friends, but try to make them understand that there is always another and better way out of problems. It is very important for people to learn about these conflict resolution courses because if most people just thought the way they think, where would the world be in 30 years? Our communities are deteriorating because we don't have the ability to change the way we are. Where has all the respect gone? I grew up knowing that you should respect your elders. But all this violence hurts the elderly and there is no respect. These courses will not only help young people with student problems, but also help parents with their children and adults with their friends, teachers and students, etc. These courses strongly encourage families to consider these courses, because they will improve their lives and other people. people live much better.
