Winning a medal in every competition or every athlete's future Olympic goal. Their struggle to pursue that dream can be harsh. To overcome this tough competition, performance enhancing drugs have become the best choice. Before discussing further, it would be best to find out about performance-enhancing drugs. PEDs, which stands for performance enhancing drugs, are substances used by athletes to improve their results. The word "doping" itself comes from the Dutch word "doop" meaning viscous opium juice and was used since the ancient Olympic Games (seven hundred and seventy-six - three hundred and ninety-three BC) (History of Performance-Enhancing Drugs in Sports, 2013). In 1928, “The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the governing body of the sport of track and field, became the first international sports federation to ban doping by athletes.” (History of performance-enhancing drugs in sports, 2013). However, this decision was denied by the athletes as this organization never carried out drug tests. Then, in the 1970s, the drug's popularity reached its peak among elite athletes, at that time PEDs were injected using sophisticated doping techniques that could fool the scientist. However, in 1983 new blood testing technologies were introduced to detect the presence of banned substances and sixteen athletes from numerous countries were caught. Subsequently, there has been research revealing long-term effects of PED use and abundant evidence that doping should be banned.
