“I am dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you need to watch out for. This quote by Johnny Depp is his most famous quote. Johnny is a highly respected Hollywood actor and has grown wise over the years. This quote is full of truth and is truly inspiring. It's hard to trust people you know are dishonest, but at least you know they're not trustworthy. Someone you think is trustworthy may be a dishonest person and you don't know it. So you put your trust in them and they take advantage of your trust and betray you. This isn't always the case, but unfortunately it happens more than you might imagine. There are many themes in the book “The Great Gatsby”. I decided to choose the following theme for some solid reasons. People who are not trustworthy might be around you. I chose to cover this theme because of the multiple instances in the book that demonstrate this, such as Jordan Baker cheating in his big golf tournament, or when Tom Buchanan cheats on his wife Daisy. This document will show you several excerpts from the book that support the theme I showed above. There are many instances throughout the book where someone is dishonest with others they know. It is certainly a recurring motif in all the pages of "The Great Gatsby". The first example I will explain is with Jordan Baker. Jordan is a professional golfer who has competed in a big match for her golf career. A semi-final against other great competitors must have been very important for her. “At her first major golf tournament there was a row that almost reached the newspapers that she had moved the ball from a bad lie in the semi-final round.” She gives... halfway through the card... goes back and gets involved with another person. There is no good enough reason why anyone would cheat on their spouse under any circumstances. If they wish, they must end the relationship first. Or they just have to try to make the relationship work as it is. As you can see from the many reasons above, there are many examples in the book of people being dishonest and lying to others. Demonstrate that people you think you can trust may turn their backs on you and hurt you. Sometimes, it's best to keep things to yourself if possible. Dishonesty and lying usually lead to people getting hurt and it's not worth it in the end. Thank you for taking the time to read the document and I hope I have taught you something that you can apply to your life. Works Cited Fitzgerald, Scott. The Great Gatsby. New York: Scribner, 2004.
