Michael Jordan's LegacyWhen someone mentions basketball, what comes to mind? For some it might be their favorite sport. It could be every child's dream to play professional basketball. But, for most people, the greatest basketball player to ever play comes to mind. I remember growing up playing basketball in my driveway, counting the seconds to the last shot. My brother and I pretended to be one person; that person was Michael Jordan. He has always been one of the greatest icons in all sports. Jordan is the most influential player to ever play basketball. Not only did he influence the game of basketball itself, but he significantly influenced society and the city of Chicago. There has always been a debate about who is the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. Many sports analysts have said that you could compare today's best players to Jordan. Personally I don't agree. Michael Jordan completely changed the way fans looked at the sport of basketball. Not only from his game, but from his mentality in every game. No one wanted to win more than Michael Jordan, and few ever did. Jordan finished his career with six NBA championships, five Most Valuable Player awards, six final Most Valuable Player awards, 14 All Star selections, nine first-team All-Defensive selections, while leading the NBA in scoring ten times. Based on these results, most people would undoubtedly say that Jordan is the greatest player to ever play basketball. But it's not just a question of awards and statistics. Jordan had the will to win like no other. “To beat Michael Jordan in a playoff series, you would literally have to cut off his arms and legs, and even then you would find yourself… in the middle of the paper… accounting. It's something I try to do. I try to hold myself to the highest standards possible” (np). End of paragraph or continue?...Although there are many athletes that Michael Jordan influenced, he didn't just influence athletes. In an article written by Jeff Coga, he lists all the important things he learned from watching Michael Jordan. He learned the true meaning of working hard, being relentless but remaining humble, and how to push his teammates to improve. Jeff Coga has connected each of these points to business and how he has used them throughout his career (Coga np). The point is that Michael Jordan is and always will be the most idolized player in all of sports. Whether he is a basketball player, a football player, an Olympic swimmer or even a businessman who dreams of being like Jordan, he will always be the most idolized athlete in all of sports.
