The only way hospitals can receive blood is through blood donations. About 34% of the population is entitled to donate blood but, as I wrote before, only 10% of these actually donate. The possibility of a patient being prevented from receiving a transfusion has always motivated me to donate as often as possible. A basic blood donation requires approximately half a liter of donor blood, however, the average red blood cell transfusion is approximately three liters of blood. However, not everyone can donate blood, whether they are unfit or have a strong fear of needles and blood. I don't have any of these problems and so I feel like I almost have to donate. I'm trying to apply this mentality to much of my service. I try to come to the start of each service grateful that I am physically able and have no mental or emotional anxieties that would prevent me from providing community service. I also try to always be excited about the work I'm doing and try to learn more about the project and what I can continue to do to help
