1. Hardin says there are three solutions to the tragedies of the commons. Technique, coercion and finally conscience. A moral solution, like conscience, is a way of convincing individuals by appealing to, questioning, or addressing the reason of individuals involved in tragedies. This is a change in their personal beliefs towards a particular topic. However, Hardin says appealing to conscience rarely works. Hardin argues that relying on conscience as a solution to tragedies of the commons often results in failure. This is because Hardin suggests that using conscience as a solution to the tragedy of the commons only creates selfish individuals. Hardin rejects the conscience solution because it is only an excuse to avoid the difficult decisions necessary in the face of tragedies of the commons. It also says that we must abandon all temptation to appeal to independent action.2. “Doctrine of America” America; where its citizens adopt the ideals of freedom, the mentality of equality and the land of opportunity! Although the journey to get here was not easy, Americans fought and fought to gain this freedom. The war, the pain and the struggle were worth the cost. Americans fought not only to preserve this country, but to ensure freedom for generations to come. A life now defined by the happiness, comfort and safety of its members. It is a successful idea created by the social, economic and political systems that govern this powerful country; which are financed by and for people through the implementation of taxation. This is the American dream. This dream defines American citizens. It creates hope, happiness, and prosperity that motivate American individuals. It's freedom,... middle of paper... wherever you want! It's a concept that truly illustrates what it means to be an American, free. One idea that both American ideology and communism agree on is the idea of taxation. In both situations, taxation is the form of financing government operations. This is an essential part of what makes these two forms of government operate effectively.6. American ideology and Emerson's writings on Self-Reliance have some similarities. American ideology focuses on diversity. This means that each person must express who they are ethnically within American society. Emerson's writing entitled Self-Reliance states that we, as human beings, must be true to ourselves and this must be done by looking within. I find this very similar to the view expressed in American ideology because both views encourage individualism and being true to who you are as a person.
