“In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally start living.” This is the quote written on the back of every graphic novel in The Walking Dead series. The Walking Dead series is the story of a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world where the dead walk the earth as flesh-eating zombies. On October 31, 2010, the series became the AMC original series of the same name. Four years and four seasons later, it is now a very popular show with a huge viewership, breaking the cable TV record with the season 4 premiere, setting it at a whopping 16.11 million viewers (John). From the action, suspense, emotion, and psychological aspects of the show, The Walking Dead is truly the greatest show on cable television. Now for you action and violence lovers out there, before each episode begins the show warns that there is an intense amount of violence that may be too much for some people to handle. They're not lying. In each episode the writers manage to be more creative than the next, finding new ways for the survivors to punch zombie skulls and fight their human enemies. In one episode the main character, Rick, is held in a bear hug by a rather large boy. The boy laughs and says "what will we do now?" Rick then uses his teeth to rip the big man's jugular vein from his throat. Another scene of violence in The Walking Dead is the multiple times zombies beat up and eat some poor guy. They show flesh being torn from the body and include screams of agony as walkers continue to eat and tear. These scenes, and the violence of many other scenes, are a key aspect that makes The Walking Dead a great show. Another aspect that makes The Walking Dead a great show is... middle of paper......nt king, to a farmer from a democratic group, and right now he is shown embracing his brutal animal nature at the end of the season 4. This is very interesting for the audience and makes them expand their horizon of vision. The psychological aspect of Walking Dead makes the show more complex and elaborate, making it a work of art. Bottom line, there are many shows out there that are sensational pieces of cinema. Even if The Walking Dead is a step ahead of the competition. I am able to make a very violent and action-packed show that also includes the emotional side for those viewers who also prefer an emotional connection. This series also allows the viewer to experience the effects of the apocalypse on the human mind and society. The Walking Dead will be a series that will be remembered long after its passing. There is simply no equal.
