Human services is a profession that has been profoundly affected by some laws passed by Congress. One of the most influential pieces of legislation passed was the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act, enacted by President Barack Obama in 2010. This legislation has profoundly influenced the Department of Human Services more than any other legislation in the past. decade. Many positive changes have been made, but many would argue the negative aspects of some of the changes as well. It is critical in this line of work to study and evaluate both sides of arguments to improve your ability to heal and help others. Before the PPACA, some divisions of the medical field made the scope of health coverage much smaller than it was. it should be. This largely affects individuals who have little pre-existing income and rely on social assistance for many needs, such as healthcare. With this narrow range of coverage, it becomes difficult for the government to sustain funding for welfare and, consequently, funding for the Department of Human Services. Now, with the PPACA, this problem has been eradicated, but some still debate whether the act hurt the economy in an attempt to make up for the lack of funding. This has been an issue that has led to many debates and controversial statements, but no clear decision has yet been made on the matter. With this legislation, many note some of the key objectives intended for citizens. A very notable goal is to make healthcare accessible to all Americans and, at the same time, improving the quality and efficiency with which healthcare is conducted.
