Hurricane Katrina will always be remembered for the devastation it caused, my friends, the Adams family knows this better than anyone. My family has been close friends with the Adam's for almost my entire life; being from Louisiana they were incredibly passionate about helping others. Many of Adams' relatives live in Louisiana, including their parents on his father's side. The parents live just twenty minutes south of New Orleans on a small farm. During Hurricane Katrina, when the levees were breached, water flooded the town and their farm. They lost the few livestock they owned and their home was damaged beyond repair due to high flood waters. The couple sought refuge on the roof until help arrived. Meanwhile, the Adams family had no way to contact them to make sure they were safe and they worried sick for almost a week. In the end, almost a week passed before the parents were able to contact our friends Adam. After being rescued from the roof of their flooded home, the parents were taken to the Superdome which housed thousands of other helpless victims, who were unable to evacuate. The only reason the parents had chosen not to evacuate the city like most other residents was because they had both survived Hurricane Camille in 1969 and Hurricane Andrew in 1992 with minor damage. Furthermore, the parents could not bear to abandon their livestock, which was their main source of income. After staying at the Superdome for what seemed like an eternity, they managed to leave and moved to Georgia to temporarily live with the Adams family. Afterwards, they returned to Louisiana. They currently live two hours north of New Orleans and have rebuilt their lives on a new farm, far from the potential...... middle of paper......Georgia Emergency Management Agency | Internal security.
