Heller, McDonald v. Chicago) strengthened Americans' constitutional right to own guns for self-defense. Now most states require that you have a permit to carry a gun around. Florida was the first to do so in 1987 amidst many pro-gun laws put in place across the United States. More and more people believe that stricter background checks are needed for people trying to buy guns. Even though laws have been passed to make background checks mandatory for those purchasing a gun, sometimes they aren't even used and people are able to get them easily, especially criminals. Criminals who have committed horrible crimes can easily get their gun rights back and then go on to commit even more horrible crimes. Since the 1980s, it has been common for felons to receive their gun rights back after Congress allows state laws to dictate their reinstatement. Under federal law, people with felony convictions lose the right to bear arms. Yet every year in this great nation many criminals have their gun rights restored without anyone saying a word. A Cleveland judge has restored gun rights to Charles C. Hairston, who was convicted of first-degree murder in North Carolina after shooting someone in the head with a rifle in a grocery store. He also had another conviction for corruption of a minor in 1995 (Solomon, 2016). It seems obvious to keep the guns out
