Topic > Unethical Advertising: False Claims That Mislead People

Advertising has become the most powerful tool used by companies to create product awareness among the public through which they highlight the benefits of the product or service. Advertisements seen everywhere around us in magazines, television channels, web pages and billboards in the streets. Advertising is a way that companies and organizations use media to market their products to a mass audience. Companies now allocate a significant portion of their budget to advertising to boost sales of their products and services. However, unfortunately, today many organizations neglect ethical standards when advertising their products. Unethical advertising offends and misleads many individuals in society; It is an indecent phenomenon that should be prohibited by law. For starters, many companies cheaply use women as sexual tools to promote their products and often stereotype their role as unemployed housewives who do all the housework. Recent studies show that “In many advertisements, the ideal woman is an object that exists to satisfy men's sexual desires. Many researchers have shown that women in advertisements are portrayed as sexual objects” (Baker, 2005). Women usually appear as an attractive material that stands next to the product to attract the attention of buyers. Advertising companies distract public attention by presenting their products in the hands of sexy-looking women with little dresses covering their bodies. . An example of this is a Hardee's advertisement showing famous celebrity Kim Kardashian unveiling outfits while lying on a bed and eating Hardee's new chicken salad. We can see sexual women in all types of product advertisements, from cosmetics to fashion, food and airlines. No logic...... middle of paper ......the clear rules of ethical advertising to protect ethnic groups, minorities and gender from any offensive hints and prevent advertisers from making false claims that mislead people . The public should also play a role in censoring advertising and requiring governments to apply sanctions to advertisers who deviate from clear rules of ethical advertising. Works CitedBaker, C.N.
