The play Antigone should be used as a tool to help us better understand and function productively in our society. Antigone is a wise and courageous character, with a strong mentality and a model of civil disobedience. Antigone is a courageous character in this story, she represents women as a whole just as Sophocles intended her to be. In this period women had a certain way of life. They were the custodians, the preparers of the dinner and the setters of the table. Women in today's world have proven this stereotype wrong. We work and go to school, we can wear dress pants instead of a suit. Antigone knew that her freedom was limited and she was treated very badly and disrespected because of her gender, and was despised by her father. With all this, he had the courage to step out of the box and take action. Antigone overcame the set of rigid guidelines to achieve the unattainable. Thanks to Antigone today we are reminded that we must remain stubborn and inspire others to follow in our footsteps. We can fight for our beliefs and set goals to achieve what we want most. Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean we're any less important. We can still take on the role of caretaker and rule as a wise individual. Antigone has a strong mentality. She was very worried about her choice to bury her beloved brother to please the gods and her state of mind, but she stood by her decision and did what she had to do. Antigone could be killed. He risked everything to do what was right for those he loved. In today's world, for whatever reason, we struggle to do what is right. We should be able to sacrifice our safety for the concern of others. We have become so self-centered, which means we only care about ourselves and don't give a damn... middle of paper... as you see, the play Antigone should be used as a tool to help us better understand and function productive in our society. Antigone is an intelligent and courageous character, with a strong mentality and a great model of civil disobedience.
