Have you ever felt like two completely different people? Dexter Morgan has been this all his life since he was little. As a child, Dexter witnessed his mother's murder. A policeman named Harry Morgan found Dexter in a pool of blood next to his mother's body. He taught Dexter his "art". This upbringing by a monster turned Dexter into a monster. His learned skills; both as an investigator and as an assassin, they have guided him since the first seasons of the series. At first he is driven by bloodlust and a distorted sense of justice. He punishes people he deems worthy of death, murderers he deems inferior. He does all this while avoiding capture and ensuring that blood trails never lead back to him. Dexter's character arc is symbolic of the human struggle to evolve and mature from the monstrous to the messianic. As a blood spatter pattern analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department, Dexter uses his unique skills as a careful investigator and unknown serial killer to hunt down criminals who evade detection and capture. Dexter is very different from the life of a “normal” person. He is a very intelligent individual; also being a multitasking father. At the same time, he follows all the moral codes that his stepfather Harry taught him to follow when he was young. In common with some serial killers, Dexter is intelligent and likable. He's handsome and unpretentious, although perhaps he seems a bit of a "blood splatter fanatic" to his colleagues. However, Dexter differs from other serial killers in one key element; he has a family to which he feels a great sense of attachment. "Harry's Code," as Dexter calls it, includes rules like never killing innocents and faking emotion and normality to fit in and avoid... middle paper......elf? Dexter asks these questions in almost every episode. He knows he has psychological issues and problems. Comparable to drug addicts overcoming addiction and people overcoming immaturity. His human condition from monster to noble protector is a true story for his travels and the trials he went through. Works Cited Cordaro, Allison. "The 20 Best 'Dexter' Quotes."
