The Black SwanPART I: STORYBackground InformationNina is a young Caucasian woman, in her mid-twenties, physically and mentally drained because she is a perfectionist and dancer in a prestigious dance company. Nina is single, heterosexual, interested in men and lives with her single, controlling and obsessive mother in an apartment in New York. Nina is extremely shy, timid and overly sheltered. She lives with her mother, who is angry and still upset that she had to give up her dancing career at a young age due to her becoming pregnant. For this reason, Nina suffered some physical abuse from her overly controlling mother. Nina's mother constantly barges into her room, depriving her of any privacy. Nina isn't allowed to go out late at night, and because her mother is so strict, she doesn't have many friends that she's close with and has never had a romantic relationship. Immediately after training she goes straight home and sits in her room, constantly thinking about how she could be a better dancer. Nina's only source of income comes from the productions in which she dances. Nina was chosen to be the lead role in the Swan Lake production which requires Nina to have two completely different personalities, the Black Swan, who is the evil twin, and the White Swan. swan, who is the good twin. The white swan image for Nina is extremely simple because she is an innocent and naive perfectionist, but the black swan image is what is draining her because it is extremely difficult for her to let go and "let go". Due to the inability to let go, Nina is unable to please her director and the director becomes violent and very sexual towards Nina.
