This isolation and alienation begins to wear off Gregor and his health begins to deteriorate, no longer eating or moving his life is deteriorating. "The progressive deterioration of Gregor's body suggests an ongoing metamorphosis." (Corngold 239). While Gregor is weakening in life and spirit, his father decides to attack him one afternoon, throwing apples at him and sticking one in his back.
