One of the main ingredients of dietary supplements is caffeine. Caffeine can stimulate the heart, relax smooth muscles and is also a diuretic. Diuretic is a drug that can cause increased urine output by eliminating salt and water from the body. Caffeine can stop the chemical messenger that stimulates the two neurotransmitters that increase the speed and strength of heart muscle contractions. In other words, this can cause an increase in blood pressure and supply more oxygen to the brain, causing serious damage to the body. Another important ingredient found in dietary supplements is ephedrine. This ingredient is a stimulant and can make you lose your appetite. To rephrase that, ephedrine is an appetite suppressant. It is also an “adrenaline component” (Stern). Ephedrine stimulates the central nervous system and increases mental awareness, heart rate, breathing and metabolism. Ephedrine can also increase thermogenesis, which is the production of heat in organisms. They cause an increase in metabolism and promote the loss of body fat. With both of these ingredients, ephedrine has the greatest impact on weight loss but is by far the most dangerous ingredient. Take a look at these ingredients and ask yourself if any of these look like ingredients you would want to ingest. Personally, I wouldn't want to risk taking any of these ingredients and taxing my body
