Domestic violence is a pattern of violent and hostile behavior in a home, usually a form of abuse towards a spouse. Domestic violence is not something new to us because many women and even men have suffered from it at the hands of their spouse. Can this living environment influence children? Will they become abusers or perhaps victims in the future because they see their mother or father being abused or one of them abuses the other? In discussions about domestic violence, a controversial question has been: can children who live in a home where domestic violence is present be affected. Children living in a home where domestic violence is present can be very traumatic and can cause many mental, emotional and physical effects on them. Domestic violence is a serious problem and can have serious effects on children who live in a home where it is present. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, whether you are a woman or a man. Domestic violence is something everyone should be aware of, especially because it can happen to any family, no matter where you come from. According to UNICEF Human Rights Documents it is stated that “as many as 275 million children worldwide are exposed to domestic violence”. This number is huge there. Young children sometimes blame themselves for their parents' problems. The child will think about how he or she can be a better son or daughter in the hope that the parents will get along. Sometimes the child also humiliate himself because he thinks he is not good enough and that is why his parents fight. Sometimes children might even feel guilty because they can't stop the violence from happening. They may also feel useless and helpless because they cannot intervene for fear of hurting themselves or making things worse for their mother or father. All of this can lead to depression and other mental problems when they occur
