iExperience: Technologies change our livesIntroductionIn this field trip, I am trying to discover the latest developments in information technology and how these technologies affect our daily lives. Come learn about these technologies and how they will further improve our lives. This exhibition is about the Next Generation National Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN). We will discover how the Next Gen NBN has improved information technology, as it offers broadband speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second. With such a high speed, more information can be transferred in one second. This exhibition tells us how the Next Gen NBN improves our lives, work, interaction and learning. In this essay I will talk about three technologies that I believe have the greatest impact on us. These are Cloud Computing, Near Field Communication (NFC), and Telehealth.Live-TelehealthWhat is telehealth?According to the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), telehealth is defined as the use of electronic computing and telecommunications technologies to support long-distance clinical healthcare, patient and professional health education, public health and healthcare administration. Technologies include video conferencing, the Internet, store-and-forward imaging, streaming media, and terrestrial and wireless communications (link 1). Simply put, telemedicine allows for health monitoring from home. How does telemedicine work? (Photo 1) Telemedicine services are provided in three main ways: video conferencing, remote patient monitoring, and store & forward technologies. Video conferencing allows patients to have consultations with their doctor and even provider-to-provider discussions. The video conference has language translation services. Rem......middle sheet......to learn how to use the program and the devices. Especially for older adults, it may take longer to learn because they may not know how to use the computer. Telemedicine helps save money only in the long term but not in the short term. The devices are expensive, not worth it if you will use them for a short period of time. Telemedicine can cause the doctor to have inappropriate diagnoses, since telemedicine only allows doctors to visually look at the patient. Why is telemedicine necessary for Singapore? As we all know, Singapore is facing an aging population problem. By 2030, 30% of Singaporeans will be part of the aging population. Older people are less mobile and cannot regularly travel to polyclinics to receive health services. With the help of telemedicine they can receive healthcare services without leaving their home.
