Communication is the circulation of material through two people where one person is the sender and the other is the recipient. The importance of communication is how the sender expresses the intended message and how the recipient understands the material. Communication is an important part of any affiliation, whether it is work-related or part of our personal life. However you communicate, be it verbal, non-verbal, written or visual, some things can happen in the transmission phase that can make the presentation effective, ineffective, positive or negative. Listening and responding to the message delivery and its perspective or objective will give both the sender and the receiver mutual understanding. The communication process begins with the sender having to convert the message into a dialect that the recipient can understand. The structure, arrangement and semantics of the sentence must be organized in such a way that the receiver can understand and understand it distinctly. Technological progress has given us many channels of communication and a much greater chance of a message not being interpreted correctly, albeit a more timely and efficient way of communicating. More than ever the specific uses of how we connect with each other make it important to use linguistic principles, references, visual aids and appropriate settings for the message to be effective. With the many forms of transmission, a message can easily be misinterpreted, because you are not physically there to convey what you really mean. Four steps are needed to have effective communication and they are listening, processing, organizing and responding (The 4 Steps to Effective Communication, 2012).
