Professional Development: Module 4 Utility of Research in a Grand Theory of Nursing Research validates and modifies theory and in doing so increases the potential for developing nursing knowledge (McEwen & Wills , 2011 ). In Helen C. Erickson, Evelyn M. Tomlin, and Mary Ann P. Swain: Modeling and Role Modeling Theory, the belief is “that nursing is a nurse-client relationship” (McEwen & Wills, 2011, p, 158) . Role modeling theory provides expectations and associations that are testable and continue to be highly focused in research. The main principles in role modeling theory modeling are intervention goals, intervention goals, and data categories. The five goals of the interventions are: building trust, promoting confidence, promoting positive orientation by cultivating self-esteem and hope, promoting client control, affirming and promoting client strengths, and establishing mutual and directed goals ( Nursing Theory, 2013). Role modeling is used in nursing. training, practice and research. Includes the patient's perspective and understanding of nursing processes. As reported by Parker, (2007) further research is needed to fully develop and strengthen the essential models to influence patient care. Evaluations by researchers can be essential to develop appropriate model examples for future nursing practice and ensure that healthcare team practices conform to the highest ethical standards.
