As foreigners in this country, my parents received help from several people to get back on their feet while living in the United States. The hospitality and assistance those people gave is why my parents give back to others, whether they are related or not. Some examples of their donations are building a school in their home country of Ghana and helping pay college tuition for my cousins in Ghana. As a young girl, I thank my parents for the way they raised me and the environment they placed me in. With my parents' rules and guidance, I learned to respect everyone in all circumstances and to be a compassionate person. as far as my beliefs go, I believe that everyone should be treated with kindness and the right kind of attention. I want to spread my kindness to people who may not receive it. Even though it's not easy to collaborate with everyone, it doesn't mean we should give up on them. My faith is also a factor in my personality and beliefs, and my faith gives me hope that there will and can be change. If I don't make a difference for everyone, I still want to give them hope. While I was in college, I was part of a group called Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, where one of our main focuses was on global awareness. One of the main issues we were involved in was human trafficking, which we called the Human Wrong Campaign. Being involved in that campaign made me realize that girls and boys in the United States can and are also victims of human trafficking. Understanding this heartbreaking problem inspired me to get involved, but I didn't know how. The first idea I had was to take our ordinary women's Bible study and turn it into something great. With the help of a friend, we were able to come up with a plan to create... middle of paper... together with others. Knowing a person and where they come from, in my eyes, is very important. Being different, whether by ethnicity, religion or status, should not prevent people from communicating or working together. My past conflicts and stress have taught me to be patient and see the good in the bad. I usually take time out to reflect on what's going on in my life, instead of tackling it head on. Also, being able to talk about stress with people close to me helps because I can see their point of view. If I am dealing with any type of stress or conflict due to school, I will be sure to ask my counselor or teacher for guidance or questions. I am ready and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals. I believe Kean University's social work program will help me achieve these goals.
